Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media in addition to a public speaking Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency the site with videos and comments analysing the way women are depicted in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that explores the representations of females in the popular media narratives. She's dedicated to breaking down stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular culture. She also seeks to educate people about the online abuse directed towards women, as well as other marginalized groups of individuals. Sarkeesian, who holds a Master's in Political and Social thought with a degree from York University, is also a highly sought after public speaker. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. As a child she was captivated by the issues surrounding gender identity and feminist ideas. In her final year at university, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website.
